Serious Action
That's what my little ol' library card is gonna be gettin'. Thanks to all who helped to fill out my summer reading list! After a long year of ass-igned reading, I am soooo excited to finally have the opportunity to indulge myself with some tasty reads of my choice (and yours!):
*Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair by way of Mamacita's suggestion...she says reading Jane Eyre as a prerequisite is a must and as I just finished it last semester, I am prepped and ready to go.
*The Rum Diaries by Hunter S Thompson promises to be an intriguing read as it comes with Mystic Writer's endorsement
*Adam Nicolson's God's Secretarie, The Making of the King James Bible... to be fair, Paul only indicated that he was reading this and didn't ask me to join him. This is probably a very good thing as it sounds intimidating as hell to me.
*A Short History of Almost Everything by Bill Bryson, Plainsong by Kent Haruf and a shining endorsement for anything written by Jodi Picoult is offered up by Jennifer.
*The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, Anil's Ghost by Michael Ondaatje, Fight Club by Chuck Palahnuik, The Rule of Four by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thompson, and for the "pure pleasure" of it, Brandie tempts me with Sandra Brown's White Heat.
WOW! Day-uhm, girl! You make me look like a serious lightweight. Brandie also suggested that I read Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby if I had not...been there, done that, B. I think I'll start with Fight Club (as I'm probably one of the last people on the face of the earth who hasn't seen the movie) and because I'm a fan of pure pleasure, I'll take a peek at White Heat.
My good friend, Bob, is ganging up with my Brit Lit professor (who threatend to disown me) and insisting that I read The Lord Of The Rings. But, but....I did see the movies. That doesn't really count, does it?
Turns out the brilliantly funny Ed is a fan of Kurt Vonnegut and urges me to check out Breakfast of Champions.
Last, and by no measure, least, the purrfect panthergirl is turning me on to Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and a book she describes as a fascinating memoir about a bizarro childhood, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.
Thanks for all your suggestions! Now, who can tell me how to step. away. from the computer long enough to actually crack one of these suckers open?

You will love that book. Or hate it. There is no middle ground with it. But somehow I think you will love it. It's first in a series, so if you do like it, there's more where that one came from.
However, things being as they are, why would you want to step away from your computer right now? Log into IM and read at your desk. Silly woman. Multi-tasking can be really, really fun.

Youve reminded me of a few things I want to read. Thanks! Now, if I could only figure out a way to manufacture some extra time!

Of course seeing the moving counts! Arwen... *sigh*
You just know that she's the Rivendell Librarian.

Hunter S. Thompson: Before you read The Rum Diaries, be sure you have read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Curse of Lono, Hell's Angels, and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail. Those are the quintessential HST books; the rest don't quite measure up in the same way.
Kurt Vonnegut: Essential Vonnegut would include Slaughterhouse Five, Cat's Cradle, and Welcome to the Monkey House (this last a collection of short stories). Don't miss these. You won't appreciate BoC as much without reading SF and CC. Trust me on this.
Happy reading!
