Is This Thing On?
My sister bought my oldest a tiny kareoke machine for her new bedroom. She actually called me from the store aisle to ask my opinion, and I gave her some suggestions.
None of these suggestions included a microphone. I'm just saying.
So now, several times a day, my daughter cranks the machine on and turns the 'echo' effect to the max, and pages people. "Mommy (ommy ommy ommy)! To my bedroom (oom oom oom). Mommy (ommy ommy ommy). Bedroom (oom oom oom). Thanks (anks anks anks)." And then she makes a noise with her mouth meant to imitate the sound of a CB radio cutting off. (Crrrh!)
She also serenades the family at top volume, lounge singer style (How you doin' folks, where ya from? Boca? Greeeeeat!) Good times, people, good times.
This same sister (the only auntie) gave my son a Power Rangers Dino Thunder dressup outfit, including a mask, sword thing, vest, gloves and a wrist thing that makes sound effects that sound like swordplay. Guess who has children doing dead-ringer impressions of the three stooges without even knowing what they are doing? They are fake slapping "bonking" nyuk-nyuking and whoop whoop whooping away, sometimes amplified over the microphone.
She gave the baby board books. Which is a welcome respite, you know.
Oh, I hope she has kids someday. I have got the BEST gift ideas for her future brood ;)
(Just kidding, Diva! We love the gifts!)

Oh we got one of those from my husband's dad and stepmom. Only ours hasn't figured out that it can be used as a paging system. God help us all if she does!

Hee-hee! Yep, what goes around comes around. I remember when I was child free and used to give gifts like Bucket-O-Dinosaurs to the delight of my friends and their children. After K was born, I received any and all gifts that could be dumped all over the house and that would be sure to inflict pain as the tiny horns of various plastic figures stabbed into my bare feet.

My siblings have learned to DREAD my presents for this very reason. With no kids in the future, my Hubby and I buy noisy toys for my nieces and nephews, then get to go home! The best way to have kids!
(*note to self: find kid-kareoke machine for birthdays coming up...)

Sounds like fun! We, too, have a karaoke machine and my 5 year old does the same thing. It's cute....for 3 minutes. It's REALLY fun when Mom uses it:)

I did a post last week about what NOT to buy kids for Christmas. I left off the microphone, but I did state "no noisy toys". If people would just read this stuff! :)
My daughter likes to yell at the top of her lungs "Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, presenting ME the horrible dancer!" She would LOVE a kareoke machine! Thanks goodness she doesn't have one!

I'm waiting patiently for my revenge and the list is long (feather boas, 1000 piece Hot Wheel car sets, keyboards, Talking Elmo...)

We also reaped the benefit of a Karaoke machine this X-mas. Fortunately the batteries didn't come with it, so we've had a great excuse so far to not open it up :)

What comes around goes around. May she someday be so blessed, and then I'd suggest an eletric guitar with amp.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post. So typical of the Auntie w/out children, huh? lol Found you through BE..nice blog. Blogrolled you and will be back for future reading. I'm still laughing about the lounge singer! :)

This requires an audio blog of your daughter singing, with a ninja sword swish swish in the background.

There should be some sort of law: Those who give obscenely noisy toys [which, by the way, seem to require new batteries every 2o minutes] shall be compelled to spend two hours with the little darlings enjoying their gifts for every hour the parents get to be exposed to the delightful sounds created or instigated by said gifts. Ink it.

Speaking as Mandy's sister (see above comment) I am in TOTAL in agreement with the post about making gift-givers sit with the kids & noisemakers.
Oh and I have to say it: there are plenty of noisy cat toys, Mandy. Think about it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the site!! Been through a lot the last few months; nice to have a site where I'm guaranteed a laugh.
