A Little Higher, Please
While the hubs and I were enjoying a cup of coffee this morning, we heard repeated booming noises followed by giggles coming from the living room. After about five minutes, I decided to investigate. Understand that rhythmic banging noises are a normal sound around here, but by the five minute mark, usually someone is crying, so the apparent bliss was a tad concerning.
Mother Of The Year! Hand that statuette ovah here.
I poked my head around the corner to see my son and youngest daughter sitting cross-legged on either side of a floor tom drum. They were taking turns striking the drum, and then both would giggle.
They were using their foreheads.
I gave my husband the silent "get over here you will not believe this" look and he poked his head around the corner as well. As he watched our children concuss themselves repeatedly, and then laugh like maniacs, he decided to intervene. (I was secretly hoping they'd knock themselves out cold and take an early nap. Alas, better judgement than mine was in da house.)
"Guys, can we try to climb a little higher on the food chain, please?"
My son gave the drum another resounding bonk, proving that his head IS solid bone, and said "I'm omnivorous!" and then laughed with tossed back head and rolling eyes, while my daughter reared back and aimed her noggin at the center of the drum.
Is it bedtime yet?

I see your son has his mother's wit - you're in SO much trouble.

Hah! When I previewed that comment, I was sure you were going to say my son has his mother's head of solid bone.
Omnivores, unite!

Like my kids, what they may lack in common sense, they more than make up for in vocabulary.
Why on earth would anyone investigate a rhythmic thumping sound being made by multiple children unless it went on, without screaming or crying, for more than 3 minutes? I mean, really. We call that "random acts of silence" around here.

I can't help but laugh!
It sounds like my own 3 ring circus.
Isn't funny how we become more concerned when they're laughing together than crying?!

Ain't it fun having smart kids?

Actually that sounds tiring - and they *were* playing well together - so I'd encourage the head drumming every night. "Why don't you and your sister go hit the drums for thirty minutes before bed time?"
