A Wee Rant

Okay, look. When you have an ample behind and are of short stature, your genes have already issued a challenge. Must your jeans, as well?

I needed some new jeans, so I headed to Old Navy, where they openly label things with "short" although they tend to place these items on the top shelves.

Since I had kids with me, I snagged a few pairs and brought them home to try. Once, very very early in my mothering years, I attempted a fitting room with a child in a stroller. Have mercy. NEVAH AGAIN.

Why are "short" pants still too long? When will they begin making pants with an x-short designation? Will I be condemned to wear regular people capris-as-regular-length jeans for the rest of my cheap, Old Navy shopping life? Or worse, hem my cheapo jeans?

And! Why, oh why do they put the pockets so far apart? The damn pockets' edges are on the sides of my hips, and the inner edges rest just short of the middle of each 'cheek. Ah, the wide open expanse between the pockets. Yes. Let's feature the expansiveness. That's really what a girl wants. Indeed.

I have the same problem. I'm not short so I can't wear the "short" pants but I'm not tall so everything is too long. I live in the land of huge puddles and the bottom of my jeans always get soaked. I have found ONE pair of jeans that fit. I bought them at Old Navy. ; )Everything else is too long and there is no way in HELL I'm going to wear heals. I have small children who WILL knock me over. I think we should get together and design real people clothes for us not so tall people. I guess they feel we should all be 120 lbs and six feet tall! ; )

they're too long for me too.

DUDE, I KNOW!!!!!!!! I'm 5'4" on a good day, and I too find the shorts not being short ENOUGH. (and I think I've got several inches on ya'!) WTH!?!?!? We are not all Amazon women, dammit, with legs to the SKY! (shit! shit! shit!)

And tell me this, HOW AGAIN do these ultra low rise jeans FLATTER a pear-shaped figure?!?! I'm still trying to figure that one out.... it just allows the belly bulges to spill OVER the outer edges of the jeans, thus just making me look lumpy. Good times.

I won't even GO THERE on jeans with no back pockets. That's just flat-out CRUEL.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!!!!

I'm 5'10" and I can never find them long enough. Old Navy jeans are even long on me! Good luck!!! I think Levi's make petite?

First, Old Navy pants NEVER work for me. Any kind that have (and I need long pants but that's not the reason; they just aren't flattering.)

Unfortunately, you just have to shop a lot and keep trying different brands. I finally found out that DKNY (I get at Macys and sometimes Marshall's/Ross) looks best on me.

Good luck!

Thank You!
Praise the freakin' lord girl you are so right on! First off I have to bring my 6'5 hubby w/ my to Old Navy to snag the 'short' jeans off the top of the shelf, then I get the bastards home and there still to long! Arrgghhhh!

Well, you know, if you were a better mother, you'd be making all your kids clothes, and your own pants, by default, as well.

BWWAAAHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL! I was at Old navy, Kohl's, and Ann Taylor on Saturday and bought a bunch of jeans, same deal had the kids with me. And I went back on Sunday and returned all of them.

I am 5'4 and the short jeans are too short, but the regular ones are too long, unless I wear high shoes... and even then some of them are too long. There seems to be no standard length.

And WHY, for the love of all things holy, are all the jeans low waisted? They don't look good on anyone, except for a 6ft tall anorexic who has never had children. I don't want to accentuate that layer of fat I have by hanging it over the waist band of my jeans.

Why can't they make a pair of jeans that are a normal length, sit at the waist, and have a fashionable leg cut? Surely that can't be too difficult.

Rant on jenny, I am so there with you.

I had the good fortune of receiving a gift certificate that allowed me to buy two pair of jeans a couple of months ago at a department store that I ordinarilly couldn't afford. The Calvin Klien jeans are perfect. I'm 5'3" and the Short was actually short enough. The Polo jeans are miles too long. I let someone convince me that it is cute and hip to wear jeans cuffed, so I've been ignoring how stupid it looks and wearing them that way. I have yellow jeans thread to hem them, but I am short AND lazy.

I have taken a small child, in a CART, into a fitting room in WalMart to try on bras. She demonstrated for the whole world her fantastic vocabulary...."Mummy! Your boobies? Them your boobies, Mummy?! Nice boobies, Mummy."

If Sarah Jessica Parker is any indication, you're supposed to roll the cuffs up. And wear them with high heels. :-)

I'm 5'2.5" and I have the SAME issue with their jeans/slacks. It's like Old Navy thinks we all wear stacked boots with our jeans/slacks. I wish they would put the length of the inseam on their tags...it would be SO helpful....

HA HA! I am 5'2 and I swear I have to buy capris to have any normal jeans! WHY DON"T PEOPLE MAKE SHORT PEOPLE PANTS?! Not to mention that if I actually wanted capris to be capris....Good luck. And why is that if pants fit my butt they have to be huge around the waist? Is it unheard of for a small, thin girl to have a little da-dunk da-dunk in the trunk? And not much either! I like Target's jeans, of late. just an FYI for other shorties out there.
