Three Nut Tart

I don't know what sparked my memory, exactly. I think I might have read about a recent gig in the paper. Anyway, back, way way back at Jenny version 1992 I had a social life that included pints of Rogue Red at a little pub, where the favorite band was an offbeat act called "The Feud." They always played the New Years Eve show, and never failed to bring down the house with their foul mouthed alternative country version of "You Picked A Bad (F'ing) Time To Leave Me (You B*tch) Lucille."

Spurred on by whatever jogged my memory, I went in search of their locally produced CD. I got my hands on it today, and it's as rough around the edges and utterly raucous as I remembered. The only things missing were the roar of the crowd, the drunken college boys lurching towards me with closed eyes and puckered lips at the stroke of midnight, and the sticky, wobbly tables.

Twelve years ago. TWELVE? It is impossible that those cheerfully sodden evenings spent in the company of dear friends happened so many years ago. We used to rip phrases out of magazines and paste them together in ridiculous poetry, the condensation on our pint glasses acting as paste. We made plans. We drew conclusions. In fact, we decided we would be a band.

I'm a big ideas kind of girl. I like to make wild plans. Generally, these things don't ever come to fruition, because of The Lazy. Luckily, my friends "Loretta" and "Stan" like to play along. In the middle of our third round one fine evening, we concocted the plan to be a band. We pulled out an eyeliner and a couple of cocktail napkins and formed our plan of attack.

Loretta had taken piano for years, but felt that she would prefer to play drums. Stan, well, for Stan it was all about being the center of attention. She wanted to be the lead guitarist, because then she could be in the center of the stage and everyone would be looking at HER, and everyone would interview HER, and everyone would have posters of HER. It was unanimously decided that since I have mad skilz at just about everything, I would fill in the gaps musically and sing.

With the pecking order established, we landed on a fantastic name. Three Nut Tart, after the dessert we had shared at a coffee shop before hitting the pub. We also chose band identities - sticking with the nut theme. I believe we went with Pistachio, Cashew and Almond, since we had "a rule" that you couldn't use the word "nut" in your nut-inspired nickname.

Come to think of it, we really could have done ourselves a favor and visited here. We coulda been big.

It is this same bravado that leads me to tell my children whoppers about their father shooting his eyes across the room while trying to inflate a balloon. In fact, this whole parenting thing is awesome for Big Idea girls like me, because the seeds I plant today...muwahahaha!

Never, and I stress this, never put a link like that in again! My computer went haywire as I fell to the floor gasping for a breath, giggling so hard that I woke up a soundly sleeping soul. Why, you ask? Because my band would have been "Uterus Accusation." That must mean I'll have to drive Dodge trucks cuz I swear that new logo looks like a uterus and Fallopian tubes trying desperately to clutch on to some ovaries.

Three Nut Tart. Huh. I'm willing to bet Uterus Accusations would be a challenge to go up against. ;-)

Hey guess what? Michele has made you site of the day! And I'M the first one here! Of course, I'm early by an hour, but still! Hi! Michele sent me! It doesn't matter that I'd be here later, anyway, to check on the nudist and all that. THIS visit is strictly Michele related. I'll be back later, like in the morning. Maybe sober by then.
Hi! Michele sent me!! I'm first!!!

Hello, just stopping by to say hi and michele sent me. Three Nut Tart sounds like a great name for a band.

Hi there. Michele sent me. You also sent me back to my college years, thanks! :)

Good morning, Michele sent me. Three Nut Tart is an awesome name for a band.

Hi Jenny! I'm a regular, but Michele sent me.

Hi there, Michele sent me. This is my first visit but you are now the latest addition to my blogroll.

My friends and I were doing the 'form a band' thing down the pub a few weeks ago. We had all the roles mapped out but the best we managed for a name was The Muddy Funsters, which isn't really appropriate given our genre of Operatic Metal (a-la Nightwish) :)

Hello, Michele sent me, and I'm so glad she did. Keep those Big Ideas coming!

Loretta and Stan eh?
What ever happened to the Judean Peoples Front, anyway?

Great Blog. Michele sent me.

Michele sent me, too...although I was already reading you, anyway! ;)

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Thank you for the trip down amnesia lane. I haven't thought about some of the bands I used to rock out to in AGES. The darling spouse was a musician in a band with a rockin' name, but if they'd been stuck for one I would definitely have shared the link you provided.

As for Big Ideas - keep 'em coming - Big Ideas are what make this world such an interesting, entertaining, and thought-provoking world.

Almost forgot! Michele sent me - and I'm glad she did.

Three Nut Tart! I love it - and I love you! Michele sent me, and I'm so glad she did.

My band: Candied Pants...:)

Hi there. Michele sent me.

LOVE the monkeys! Very symbolic.

Hello, Michele sent me. And my band will, apparently, be called 'Medley Of Badness'!

My band will be called Butt Flambe, and frankly that sounds pretty, scarily accurate!

Hello, Michele sent me, but I come here regularly anyway.

I would like to be Brazil Nut if added. The Four Nut Tart! Came by Michele!

I remember those "big idea" days...except mine were more like 14 years ago. Oh, btw, Michele sent me! I really enjoy your blog..I've been here before!
