Scattered

Morning dawned an hour ago, and yet it feels false. The sky is coated with a sticky grey, and the world looks fuzzy. I want to crawl back in my bed and come out when sunlight lures me with the promise of a beautiful day, none of this rainy Sunday in June baloney.

There is a bird sitting out on my trellis, chirping with an almost electronic sound. It has a metallic timbre, and although the pitch varies, it reminds me of a synthesizer. Yeah, other people get birds who twitter and sing, I get what sounds like an angsty, new wave teenager in 1984, trying to plunk out a one-fingered synthesizer melody on the Casio keyboard he got for Christmas.

I'm suffering from busy brain this morning, full of swirling ideas and half-baked plans. After an hour of tossing and turning in my bed, having been joined by my three children, the dog and somewhere on the far side of the mattress, my husband, I decided to cut my losses and make some coffee.

They are all still asleep, in a tangled dogpile. I'm halfway through my first cup of coffee, and I'm thinking of having a second cup. I can already feel the caffeine percolating through my system, though. A second cup would probably launch me onto the roof.

A tune from my childhood keeps popping to my lips from the recesses of my brain. Who taught me "What Can You Do With A Drunken Sailor?" and how did it end up in my head this morning? Perhaps I'll have a nautical themed day. Way-hay and up she rises...Aargh! Watch out, me hearties!

It's Father's Day. I'll be making bacon and eggs for breakfast this morning, or maybe biscuits and gravy, since the hubs loves him some greasy breakfast. I am not sure what the rest of the day will hold. We've talked about a trip to the zoo, although I'm not sure any of us really want to go. My sister has offered to take my son for a few hours, and he doesn't want to miss a chance for alone time with his Auntie. It amuses me that my kids call my sister Auntie, but pronounce it ON-Tuh. What is up with that?

Speaking of the sprog, he just shuffled out to stand beside me, still warm from sleep. He rested his cheek on my upper arm and launched into a monologue about visiting with ON-tuh and playing her piano, and the joys of her cat's catnip mouse toys and how they don't have any feet or even legs really and isn't that so funny but they are really fun and I have just GOT to see them and maybe I could put one in my pocket if the pocket was big enough and On-tuh said I could, but then the cats might be sad if they couldn't find their toys except if my pocket was big enough to put the cats and then I could reach in and pet them but they might bite me because they don't like being in pockets, at least he doesn't think so because that's silly and ON-tuh probably wants them in her own pockets instead of mine. Hey, where is ON-tuh anyway?

Indeed. I know she said 10am, but as the child points out - he's up and at 'em already. And ready to stuff catnip mice in his pockets.

I'm thinking a second cup of coffee is a good plan. Yo ho ho, and a bottle of rum.

Why don't you surprise On-tuh before 10:00 AM and you and your hubs have a great day just messing around? Devine "messing around" anyway you choose.

He goes with On-Tuh, rest of the kids go into packing crates in the garden.
Hey-Disco, you have the afternoon free.

Oh, and I *love* the phrase "Warm with sleep", that sums up what it sums up PERFECTLY.

Yes, more coffee and toss a wee shot of Bailey's in there too :)
