Weathered Is The New Sophisticated

BlogHer is right around the corner, and I'm in pre-launch mode, going over my check-lists again and again. I'd still love to hear any suggestions/comments regarding parents who blog - specifically, what does the term "mommyblogger" mean to you?

My family is on the mend, although we are all a bit cranky. My oldest shot awake from a thrashing sleep cycle and shouted "I'm sick of being sick, mah-meeeeeee!" in a really pissy tone, at 3 am. The rest of the wee morning hours were spent soothing and resettling kids who jumped out of their beds whining. It felt a bit like living in one of those kiddie pianos with the little creatures who sing when you plunk their color-coordinated key. After a while, I wished for a whack-a-mole padded hammer and a scoreboard - might as well make it entertaining, you know?

When I finally collapsed again (on the couch this time) with my youngest, my husband's alarm went off. I snoozed while he got ready for work, and we were both tickled to find that my son had put on his little button down 'big boy' shirt and slacks to be just like Daddy. Moments after the hubs left, the boy wiped his nose all over the cuff of the shirt. Classy!

I'm looking a bit...meh. It's not my best look, per se, but one I know how to work. Who needs smoky eye makeup when you have dark circles? Volumizing spray? Nah. Just sleep on a wet head and arrange the resulting giganticness into shape with a pair of salad tongs and a meat fork. Really, you can glean my life experience and burgeoning wisdom just from glancing at my sleep deprived face. It's like using a tree's rings to tell its age.

I'm off to do some Airborne shooters and hold the limbo stick from my wild children. Happy Tuesday!

That look is the one I stick with most of the time. The hair, the dark under-eye circles, the rumpled clothes (oh, wait, you didn't say that, it's just me). The upshot is that when I do manage to actually, you know, fix my hair and/or put on make up, people comment on how "great" I look. And how they didn't realize how blonde my hair is. *That's because I washed it especially for you!*

Hmm... I guess I think a mommy blogger is someone who's chronicling their adventures in parenting. It can be such a lonely and hard job and it seems to me that mommy bloggers use their blog as a type of workplace water cooler. A place to share war stories and gossip, defeats and triumphs. Because there isn't always another place.

Well, it sure sounds like your sense of humor is in tact! Not sure mine would be. Girl, you rock.

I feel for you! And it always seems that summer colds are the worst. Keep up the good work, there's light at the end of the kleenex box! :)

You are going to be such a wonderful asset to BlogHer and it will be a great change of pace for you. Sick children start to feel as though they've been sick forever and will be sick forever after about 5 hours. Glad everyone is on the mend.
Sounds like a good look, too.
Oh- and the previous post is the definition of
"mommmy blogger"

Did I ever tell you how totally jealous I am of how much fun I'm sure y'all are going to have without me?

DID I?

Oh am I so looking forward to all that :) I must be right?

Ok Mommyblogger: One who is a mommy (with children of any age) who makes regular posts about those children and what it's like being a mommy to them.

"Just sleep on a wet head and arrange the resulting giganticness into shape with a pair of salad tongs and a meat fork."

Jenny, you kill me. You really do.

I'm with Angie -- on what a mommyblogger is. I know I definitely use my blog as an outlet and at times to "purge" what's been consuming my mental energies. And I obviously don't spend nearly enough time on my grammatical and spelling errors.

As for the sick kids stuff...I hate how the house starts to smell too. Ewwwwww. It has that "sick kid" smell. Speaking of kid smells... DId you ever notice "sweaty little boy" smell is very close to "wet dog" smell?

Anyway... I get a laugh every time I "visit" your site. Thanks.

I wish I could go to Blogher. Maybe next year
