Toot! Tooooooot!
Hello! Hi! It's Saturday night! I am totally in shock. Where did the week go? Anyone want to guess? Okay, I'll tell you:
It vaporized on my smoking hot, sunburned forehead.
That's right, people. I managed to cook my face, arms and décolleté to a crispy shade of lobster while walking back and forth, back and forth and back and forth to the school.
I'm walking four miles a day what with all the back and forth. Three days of school = 12 miles last week! I am excited to see if my legs and other *cough-ass-cough* parts start to slim down and/or get more shapely. That way, even when I'm walking around town with a deeply lined, peeling face from all the sun-exposure, I've got nice gams to distract with.
So, let's see. This last week, I said goodbye to my friend from New Zealand. We had a rushed 15 minutes at 8:30 in the morning with my kids running amuck and me not having anything of importance to say, so I just sat there leering at her until our time ran out. I gave her a quick hug at the door and she hurried in to continue her packing. I miss her more than ever, and I hope that our next visit is in a few months, rather than a few years.
That evening, my sister and I took my brother and his girlfriend to see Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright and Ben Lee in San Francisco. I took a bunch of mediocre photos, which can be found here. It was really fun to hang out with my siblings - it seems that we rarely have time to just be together. We had fantastic seats, and aside from my just barely surpressed need to run on the stage and hold Rufus still so he didn't throw himself off the piano bench in the middle of an eyes-closed, head-tossing, torso-swaying motion, we enjoyed ourselves.
The next morning, we took the kids to school, and then I came home with grandiose ideas about major accomplishments. So far, I've managed very little. Nevertheless, it is almost the new week, and I'm ready to dig in anew. I should be able to blog, at the very least, you would think.
I find it interesting how completely owned I am by the school calendar. Last year I struggled and complained about the rigid schedule, the *gasp* having to be somewhere everyday, and, like, on time, ohmigod. This year, I'm totally down with the drill. (Again, I've managed to do it for THREE WHOLE DAYS when the kids are still ENJOYING the novelty of it all. I shouldn't be tooting my horn, but here I am, and there you are, so toot! Tooooot!)
Just wait though...I will be having a crazy schedule for the next five weeks, with every day, every child having a different drop-off and pick up time. I will be ranting, I can almost guarantee it. I'm confused just thinking about it. Owned. I am owned by the school's whims.
We spent today playing catch-up, and now I'm enjoying the quiet house and getting ready for a trip to the zoo in the morning. Oh, shoot. My baby just came trotting out all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, telling me all about something I can't quite understand. And the hamster just kicked it into overdrive, too. So much for quiet. Hee!

FOUR miles a day? Hoagly-moagly! I'm sure your [clearing throat] assets are gonna be high and tight in no time. Just get a wide-brimmed hat for those walks to keep those rays off your face & chest.

cool photos! I especially like the really blurry ones of Ben Lee - very artistque ;)
Yeah, a wide brimmed hat, or sunscreen, but just don't go all Australian Cricketer on me, white zinc smeared all over your dial is NOT a good look

Wow, that is a lot of walking! I'm glad we're only doing afternoon kindergarten, so I only have to go back and forth twice a day. Next year I guess it will be the 4 round trips. I hope we can ride our bikes, at least until the snow comes. Still, I'm looking forward to the exercise. Thanks for the warning to use sunscreen!
Hey, do you have a pedometer? You could tell us how many thousand steps you're doing!
Is your little one making all these trips with you? In stroller or on foot? Way to go!
We start on September 9th, so I have to think of stuff to do with the kids for 2 more weeks. Hmmm.

We are gearing up for the "schedule" to begin. SugarPlum starts school this week along with soccer as well as gymnastics for all three. Next week Bear starts preschool. I may lose my mind.

I feel ya, my friend. "Completely owned" is exactly it.

We saw Ben (Folds) and Rufus last summer. It was awesome. As was their duet of Wham's Careless Whisper.

Ummm, helllooo.... I do believe that's the first photo I have seen of your brother. He's waaayyy cute and you two look so much alike! Now, just tell me that you have mirror personalities and.... oh, wait, there is that whole pesky girlfriend thing. Dammit.

Keep up the four miles a day, and you will be busting the miniskirts along with the rest of the returning-to-the-eighties fashion world, stat.

I'm going to re-read this entry every day after our kids go back to school. We need a routine. Desperately. And maybe some kiddie-valium. Yes, sweet valium.
