You Put Your Whole Self In, You Put Your Whole Self Out
First off - trot on over to Mommybloggers and see who our special guest is this week!
Ahem.
Wow, I am spectacularly bad at managing my time! I can't seem to accomplish anything lately. I'm running days behind on answering emails and phone calls. I am doing laundry on a crisis basis, one immediate need load at a time. I am making meals the same way.
There has to be some sort of medal event for this level of incompetence.
I'm so busy putting one load in and taking one load out, doing the hokey pokey and turning myself around that it has just occured to me that Thanksgiving is (hello!) THIS WEEK. And Christmas is one short month away, and I'm sitting on nothing. NO THINGS, people.
I'm going to have to *gasp* bust some serious moves if I want to actually get this holiday stuff done.
Remember my big lament about boo-hoo, I didn't decorate for Halloween and I'm ruining my childrens' memories? Yeah. Nothing going on for turkeyday yet, either. What is wrong with me? Why haven't I begun my Christmas shopping? Why am I procrastinating on everything?
I'm a big old mess! But! I'm hopeful that spending time with my family on Thursday, followed by a quick overnighter to the inlaws the next day, will either fill me with love and the spirit of the season, or will kill me quickly and entirely, boom. Thank goodness we're just guests this year, because I sense that I would be spontaneously combust should I be required to perform hostess duties. I'd be a big old greasy, charred stain on the rug. With maybe a foot left over.
I'm going to keep turning myself around, hoping to find a fresh, unblemished cheek to put forward. That is what it's all about, right?

Don't feel bad about the holidaylessness. We got so far behind that my kids didn't even get Halloween costumes. We ended up having to take an unexpected 4 days out of town, and didn't get back in until late Sunday night. Monday 10/31, when I got home from work, it was like, "So, uh, kids, I didn't get you costumes this year-- things just got a little crazy. So, if you want to go trick-or-treating, grab something out of the dress-up box and throw it on." I'm a horrible mother, I know. ;-) And Thanksgiving? Only because my Dad and Stepmom have invited me over.

Hi Jenny,
I just have to say, I check out your blog frequently and you make me laugh. Hokey pokey away and dig yourself out of your hole, tra la la and i hope you feel better about it all soon. You seem like you have a great sense of humor and I am sure your children will appreciate that later in life more than remembering if you had up pumpkins and turkeys around the house.
I would help you but I believe I am about 2000 miles away from you and with my own three ring circus here. And mine are out of school all week! Never heard of such a thing. We moved here last Dec. To Texas. I think it is a Bush thing. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This is why I NEVER host anything. I would DIE. Seriously.
And yeah, I've been on the same path lately. Nothing is getting done. It's actually too hot and dry and blah around here. Weeeeee!

I feel your pain girl! Thanksgiving is long over up here in Canada, but I'm no further ahead on the holiday gift buying than you are...stress! I'm hoping my kids will like the leftover Halloween candy in their stockings and "Peace and Love" under the tree...oui?

My mottos is "Never put off 'til tomorrow what can be put off until the day after tomorrow."
Those that truly love me have learned to love me in spite of this fact.

ugh. The holidays. Receiving crap from every end of the family on "when are you coming??" We can't be in three places at one people! I'd rather just go without it. But then I'd be the evilest mom of all.

I have gotten absolutely nothing accomplished for the holidays... absolutely NOTHING. Not that I'm a model to go by. But in comparison to me - you are the holiday wonder woman.
So enjoy Turkey Day!!

Hey, I have no Christmas shopping done and I have no kids, so you're already doing better than I am.

Girl, at least you only have to cook for one Thanksgiving. I have to cook for TWO, on TWO SEPARATE DAYS. Because Grandma insists that we have Thanksgiving at her house on Thursday, and I was able to convince my in-laws that we should have a Thanksgiving on Wednesday, so as to work within Bizarro Dad's schedule and so as not to send everyone to three places in one day.
Don't fret about the meal. Just pick out a turkey (you can even buy the "Fresh" ones that are already defrosted) and a turkey roasting bag, decide on a maximum of three side dishes, and buy two pies from the bakery or grocery store. If the kids want mashed potatoes, just buy the potato flakes and gravy from a jar. Corn: can. Green beans: can. Cranberry sauce: can. Rolls: refrigerated can (or call around to local cafeterias like Luby's or buffets like Golden Corral and order a dozen of their rolls. Send the husband out to pick them up.
Worried about decorating? There are lots of crafts your kids can make with the basic stuff. Look here http://www.teacherhelp.org/thanks.htm

Have fun!

It is indeed what it's all about. Ready for Christmas? What is this foreign concept of which you speak? And there's another way to do laundry other than the crisis load method? Did I miss the memo on all this?
