Potty Training. Again. Maybe.

I'm back on the trail to Diaper-Free Nirvana.

At least, that's what I keep telling myself. Frankly, I'm sick of buying diapers. I'm already trained to visit every restroom between point A and point B, and I'm the slightly bemused owner of 700 pairs of training panties.

And, puhleese. The child is 3 and a half. Ish. Halfish. Whatever. It is time. It is long past time.

"Hey, honey! Let's try and make peeps on the potty!"
"No. I'm busy."
"Come on, sweetie! Peeps! Quick peeps! It will be fun!"
"Go away, Mama."

Wow! This is going well! The toddler- 1, Mama- zip.

"Want some juice?"
"No."
"Want some water?"
"No."
"Jooo-oooooo-oooo-ce?" I figure singing might make it more appealing.
"No."

Great. How am I supposed to make her pee if she won't drink on command. Toddler - 2, Mama - 0.

Oh great. She just ran by with her little potty full of horses. Yes! That's a good plan! I'm really on my A game now!

To say I feel your pain is an understatement. I also have a 3 1/2 year oldish kiddo who refuses to even consider potty training.

I have offered M&M's as bribery (Which? I would kick an old lady down the stairs for some M&M's. Ok, not really. But, really.), I have cajoled, I have threatened, I have BEGGED.

What I have not done is be successful in any meaningful way. This kid is serious, he wants nothing to do with it.

I have a 19 year old and 16 year old as well, and I must have potty trained them, because, well, I'm not buying Depends for them. So what am I doing wrong this time??

Whew. I feel sorta better now that I've vented.

Thanks!

I don't even remember how I did it with the first one but having learned that he was apparently the easiest child in the world I dread what numer two (trouble is my middle name) has in store for me on this!
Good luck and once you have figured it out, tell me the secret.

Okay, I'm sure you've tried everything anyway but besides m&m's (which only worked on the first) and them training themselves (#4) I used threats. I know, I know, sounds harsh. BUT, it worked. I just told the middle 2 if they didn't use the potty they couldn't go to preschool. Then I got them trained well enough to pee when they got to school and hold it until pick up time. The rest of the time was a training pant (and not those disposable ones that my kids insisted were diapers) free-for-all. Eventually they just kept up with the training. Is there a camp or something she'd like to go to for a couple hours a day?

OMG, this is assvice isn't it. You didn't ask for suggestions. I'm sorry. I should delete but I won't. Maybe someone else can get ideas. You may send me a scathing e-mail telling me to shut the hell up. I really do mean well.

Well, today's pottytraining is yesterday's pull-ups. It's all green to be good to go at, what??? six months now? Tell me puleez. My mother tried to potty train me at 7 months and when i read her diaries I thought she was absolutely wacko and that was the root of all of everything in my life that was not in balance.

Then I had kids and pull-up diapers and laissez-faire attitudes and the last two wanted to stay in them until marriage. No kidding.

So... what is the deal now. Just curious.

Flashing by fingertips... Cheers.
