Sadistic
It wouldn't be the holidays if one of us wasn't sick. And judging from the nose blowin' I've got going on, I'm going to be looking like a fine Rudolph by this evening. Totally awesome, considering that we're planning to go take our Santa Photos this afternoon/evening/something.
I feel that having no sense of smell and a slightly woozy outlook will likely improve the experience. Or dull the pain. Whatever.
My kids have built a fort on the living room floor, and they are already discussing how much is too much for their Santa requests. Yeah, the greed wagon has arrived Chez TKC, and with a week to go, I'm bracing for the downhill ride to Christmas.
This year, for the first time ever, my parents are hosting a no-gifts party on Christmas Eve. I'm excited to have the chance to make the holiday about family instead of stuff. We've talked about making a gingerbread house together (considering last year's efforts, which netted a candy coated flop house with a couple of crack whores face down on the lawn, this might be folly) and we've thought about having the kids do a play.
Personally, I think it's time to bust out the spontaneous family talent show. I don't know what I'll do, but I think my mad free-dance skillz could pay off big time.
The good thing about coming from a family of unabashed cornballs is that there is a plethora of weird talent just waiting to be exhibited. We've got video evidence. And no, I'm not going to upload any of it.
So tell me - if you were pushed onto stage and asked to perform, what would you do?

I suck at performing... but I read your gingerbread story from last year (how did I miss this??) and I'm nearly peeing my pants. Ok, so coming from someone who is 7 mths preggo, maybe that's not such a big thing... but good grief, you cracked me up.
I'm a micromanger too. I try not to be, esp with baking, but I am.
Your outlook on said gingerbread project, certainly keeps things in perspective. :)

Jenny, we just put together (actually, I didn't even help at all) the gingerbread house kit from Costco today. It's really a good size and comes with the royal icing, candies, etc. It's about $9 and that's my suggestion for your Christmas Eve. Oh, and some karaoke. With dancing.

That is absolutely terrific that you guys are spending some quality family time together without the stuff focus. Last year our kids picked out books and took them to the children's ward at our hospital and we found some really great stuffed bears that we took to the kids who were "stuck" on the ward on Christmas Day and that impacted our kids so much more than the stuff they got.
I had to giggle at your gingerbread story. Every year we make one and every year my step-daughter and I have managed to break it somehow. This year we actually made a pretty cool looking house with no mishaps...
Delurking to say Merry Christmas

Um, since I am a singer I usually bring my husband and a guitar for accompaniment and then they have to drag me off stage a couple of hours later. Without husband and guitar my repertoire is a little more limited though. (Sorry.)
But then I really have problems with the baking. All the ingredients for the only cookies I ever bake for Christmas have been sitting on my cupboard since the beginning of December...
