Featuring Quotes By Me
The article is online today, although sadly the photo doesn't seem to be online. I'm going to pick up a paper copy this morning and see if it made it to the print edition. If not, you have the lovely description from my last entry, and that will have to suffice. ;)
Beth Blecherman of Silicon Valley Moms Blog and Jenn Satterwhite of Mommy Needs Coffee and, of course Mommybloggers are also quoted.
Do you guys watch television news programs? Or do you feel that blogging and online news is more easily digested?
Behold! The photo that they ended up using:

Cool, your name is in the very first sentence! I bet the photo's in the print edition. LMK, cuz I'll make a trip to Borders to check it out if you're in there!
To answer your question: I still have GMA on in the morning. I don't sit and watch it, per se, but it's on while I go about my morning routine. I like Diane Sawyer and I *love* Chris Cuomo.

I don't really sit down and watch, but I have Fox & Friends First and then the Today show on while I'm getting ready in the morning. I like to have a general idea of the headlines. I've given up the evening news in favor of one flavor of Law & Order or another.

Only "The Daily Show". Everything else is too depressing. I can get my news in short form on the CNN RSS feed. If I need to know more about a story, I click through.

Awesome article. I agree with what you and Jenn say whole-heartedly. My time is too valuable to get sucked into the whole "stay tuned to see what we will tease you with in the upcoming hour."
I *hate* live TV now. I also don't see how it makes me a better person to know about all the death, violence and horrible injustice in the world on a daily basis.
watching "outfoxed" has turned me very cynical towards the media.
That said, I will probably begin watching the evening news again (but probably pbs so it isn't so sensational) when the primaries get closer. I like seeing the speeches, I like watching the fanfare. And I am greatly looking forward to GWB being long gone. you know, that might be enough to make me want to watch the news again.

I absolutely abhor morning TV, which isn't news anyhow. It's fluff and it's bad fluff. I don't watch the evening news either but I do watch PBS news occasionally. Mostly I listen to NPR news during the day, watch the local news at noon, and then watch the VERY VERY late news on ABC from 3-4 am. Really. I love that news show. It's funny, it's relevant, it's so not filled with gloom and doom, and it covers pretty much everything I want to know.
As for getting my news, I get most of my local news via several local aggregate blogs, my two town blogs, and the Boston Globe online. I also read the NYTimes online, and various other papers from around the world. I read several Israeli news blogs, 2 British news blogs, and one Dutch news blog. Most of the blogs I read are news oriented these days.

I may still read crap online but at least I choose the crap and the air-time it gets on my screen. I've switched almost exclusively to online news sources. I watch the TV news when there's a 'big story' that really affects me or when I'm too tired to open my eyes and read and I want to take my news lying down.

Jenny, I just emailed you to tell you how much I enjoyed the article -- AND the photo! If you have trouble finding a paper edition over there, let me know and I'll send you mine.

I haven't watched morning TV (or any other TV) for years, but I wouldn't miss reading my blogroll for ANYTHING. I once rented a laptop in a motel so I could keep current.
Way to go! You're in the PAPER!
Um, I don't actually read the paper on paper any more, either. But I read the paper on my monitor.

The only time I watch the morning news is if I'm working out at the gym at that time. And then it's The Today Show. I never watch the local news - I get it all online. Besides being more efficient with my time, I find that the local news is not really appropriate to have on with young children in the house. If I'm travelling and in a hotel I may watch a little MSNBC here and there.

OK, that is so totally cool. You were beautifully quoted
Somewhat coincidentally, I was quoted in the LA Times last year: typically geeky stuff, and nowhere near as much fun as your topic. The article is no longer on the paper's web site, but it was cross-posted to a whole whack of other papers as well:

What a rush! I'm thrilled for you.

I think so-called traditional media are in trouble. They have kept their heads in the sand for so long vis-a-vis the arrival of new media on the scene that they're behind the 8-ball now that our eyeballs are increasingly looking elsewhere.
Either they adapt to this new world, or they'll die. Simple as that.

Way to go!!!
I tend to prefer blogs and online news, but I must admit to a bit of an addiction to CNN--though there are only so many times you can watch Anderson Cooper talking about New Orleans or the war. And that's not to say that I don't consider them important issues--it's just that there doesn't seem to be anything new about the news.

What a beautiful picture! You look great, so do the kids, and it seems to capture the warmth, humour and love of your family life. That's a keeper.
I have never watched morning TV shows, and I don't like to watch any news programs with the kids around. I don't want them to see the deaths, the crime stories, the war, nor most of the commercials either. I often hide the front page of the paper if the headlines or photos are potentially upsetting. (Our triplets are 6 years old, and reading now.)
