Rise and Shine

We made it until 6:20 AM this golden Easter morning, before the kids couldn't contain their excitement any longer. My four year old wanted to know if we had trapped the Easter Bunny. Sadly, no. We're a catch and release family, but the fuzzy little guy outwitted us again this year, leaving a few mangled carrot stumps as the only evidence. Unless you count baskets full of sugary crap. That's a pretty big indicator, too.

After a manic search for eggs and baskets, the kids settled down to bedgrudingly eat an egg apiece.

Egg Death March completed, the kids tore into their baskets full of goodies. Now 7:45, everyone is looking a little green around the gills, and my son is bouncing off the furniture and talking 700 miles a hour. I taught the kids the Chocolate Rabbit Song* and the kids were thinking about following the song, but then my son dropped his rabbit and the butt cracked off, and that was the end of that.

I'm sipping some decaf and marvelling at the glorious sunrise we've got going on. It is a beautiful start to what promises to be a gorgeous day.

We're off in a few hours to my parents' house. Happy Easter!

*I bought a chocolate rabbit for a special treat.
A great big, chocolate rabbit that was good enough to eat.
I ate its ears on Sunday
Its nose I nibbled Monday
And Tuesday I nibbled on his feet
I ate his ears on Wednesday
Thursday I kept on
Friday he was going
and Saturday he was gone
Oh I loved that chocolate rabbit from the moment that it came
And if I get another one I'll love him just the same.

What a sweet morning! Ours was similar, though, through our insistence, the bunny did not leave so much sugary junk this year!

I totally envy your watching the sunrise and having a glorious Easter morning. We awoke to more snow and 23 degrees. Brrr.

Happy Easter!

I'm looking for info about the song posted here. It's one that I've vaguely remembered from childhood, but nobody I've mentioned it to has ever heard of it. I can't believe I've finally found all of it. I knew I wasn't crazy!
