Swindled
My son lost his second tooth this weekend. It happened late in the evening on Saturday, and after he dropped off to sleep, the Tooth Fairy was actually on her game this time. She picked up the tooth and dropped off a golden dollar. And then she went to bed herself.
The following morning, my son woke up and came bleary-eyed to my bed. I snuggled him up, and we went back to sleep. When we finally surfaced, the rest of the house was buzzing. I sent my son in to find his loot, and he came back with sad eyes and droopy posture.
"She took the tooth, but she didn't leave me anything."
Oh, hell no. I, er, I mean, SHE DID TOO.
"Maybe it just dropped on the floor near your bed?" I suggested.
My four year old stuck her head around the corner of the door and covered her mouth, muffling a tiny "tee-hee."
"Hey!" I said, crooking a finger at her. "Do you know what happened to your brother's tooth fairy money?"
She pulled it from the waistband of her pajamas, polished it on her shirt and handed it over. My son beamed. I gave my youngest a good talking to about swiping her brother's tooth-booty, and then had a good laugh about it.
Middle children - they always have to keep their guard up.
