Good Morning, Son

Seven years ago, at 11:50 pm, my son made his grand entrance into the world of air-breathers, and our lives have never been the same.

While his love of dinosaurs continues unabated, he's currently memorizing random facts about Pokemon. I wasn't born with the trivia gene - but this Virgo son of mine relishes statistics. Since he first sucked in a lungful of air and let out a scream, the kid hasn't stopped talking. Sleep is a brief respite, and then he is back to the yapping.

That part he does get from me.

This morning, after a quick hug and kiss, we sized each other up. "You're seven today!" I said.
"How'd that happen?" he asked.
"It's amazing, huh?" I said.
"It's wonderful!" he said, with a grin that lit up his entire face.

He stood between my knees, hands on my cheeks and looked straight into my face. He smiled, and we both started to giggle a bit. He's seven, and he is wonderful.

Watching him in the park this afternoon, playing with other kids and deep into conversations that didn't concern me, I felt a warmth in my heart. His latest nickname (following in the unfortunate footsteps of predecessors 'porkchop' 'buddy' and 'dingus') is 'knucklehead.' It suits him perfectly. That fuzzy noggin, the skinny limbs and laugh like the poppin' fresh dough boy - the baby is still in there, but I only catch flashes now. No, he's a big kid now.

He's a big seven-year-old. And he's wonderful.

How sweet! Happy birthday to your big boy!

Aw. Happy Birthday to your son.

But darn it. Really? They keep talking that much?

I thought my daughter (5) talked a lot, but nothing compared to my son, who is only 3.

What a sweet sweet post! Must really be a sweet sweet boy. :)

Happy birthday knucklehead and mom! My son, my knucklehead, is 21 today. How did THAT happen, indeed...

21

There are no words for 21.

He sounds delightful...Happy Birthday to him...
I used to call my 17yo daughter Jelly Belly when she was a baby. I accidently slipped the other day and called her it again...not a good thing. I call my youngest Chibbies (the 3yo's prounciation of chubby) you thnk I would have learned by now.

Well, this just made me weep all over myself.

Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday, big boy. Thank you for giving me baby fever.

Happy birthday to him! He sounds like a kind-hearted little fella!

Happy birthday to your son! I also have a 7-year-old boy, and it's such an unexpectedly sweet age -- all knees and elbows and missing teeth, but lots of cuddles, too. Enjoy it!

Gotta dry my eyes! We love "our little knucklehead"! Such a grandson! So full of love and wonder! The best big brother and also the best little brother at the same time because he is the middle child. You've done well with all your kids but our b-day boy continues to delight us with his deep appreciation and affections toward all things. xoxo, Gramdma & Grandpa

I always get sentimental when children celebrate birthdays. It's amazing how time passes and we each grow another day older. It makes me miss the baby days, but I love looking forward to the future, too!

Happy birthday Mr. Big 7!

Boohoo!

What a sweet post. I hope he had a wonderful birthday.

Well, tell him "Happy Birthday!!!"

Happy belated birthday to your little man :)
