Happy Birthday to me, I'm 103...
It is my 35th birthday today, and boy howdy am I stoked about it.
My first moments of consciousness allowed my husband and son's whispers to reach my ears -
"Come on, we gotta go to the store!" whispered my husband.
"Let's get DOUGHNUTS!" shouted my son.
"Surprise!" I thought.
After the two fellas departed for the store, my daughters appeared next to my side of the bed. I opened one eye to see them both wearing party dresses, and holding out a dress from my closet and a paper party hat (slightly crushed.)
"Mommy! You have to get dressed for the party!"
I tumbled out of bed to gratuitous applause from my daughters, and headed to the bathroom. A quick look in the mirror made me think that perhaps a shower was in order before the party started. After five minutes under the hot spray, I smelled better, anyway, and I quickly towel-dried my hair and stepped into my party dress. Topping the ensemble with the party hat, I took one final look in the mirror.
Oh, hello, Birthday Zit! Nice to see you! This is becoming a tradition!
With head held high and Birthday Zit ablaze on my nose, I straighted my hat and took a seat on the couch where I was plied with doughnuts served on birthday themed party plates, coffee in my favorite mug, and got to watch a show that consisted of my children blowing up balloons with varying rates of success, and then "accidentally" letting them go, so that they made farting noises as they flew around the room, spraying spit everywhere.
I opened my cards (Hapy 35th BRithDAy!) and dodged spit-slinging, farting, flying balloons. I sipped my coffee and admired my Barbie mylar balloon. I smiled as I checked out the cake and the brie and french bread that my husband knows I love. I gamely found myself with two static-loaded balloons stuck to my head like tumors.
And it is only 9:30 am! The day is stretching out in front of me with endless possibilities. Honestly, sitting there with a hand covering my mug to protect my coffee from flying spit and watching my four-year-old wipe her chocolate-coated mouth on her dress, I have to say, I just don't think it can get much better than this.
