Power Shifting

We're four days into October and I've already had more than my fair share of champagne, seen friends old and new and received flowers. This is shaping up to be the best Month of Jenny ever! I've finally gotten my vacation pictures off my camera, but I need to get organized before I can recap the rest of the vacation.

On Thursday night, I got to participate in my second ever book-reading and signing in support of Sleep is for the Weak. Stefania from City Mama, Jenifer from Not Calm Dot Com and Lisa Stone from BlogHer were also on hand to sign books and read excerpts from the book, and we had a small but enthusiastic turnout. The Vice Presidential debates were on just before our appearance, so we were tickled to see everyone. Liz even brought the whole family!

The Sleep is for the Weak tour continues tonight at Swig, in San Francisco. The party gets started at 5pm. If you're in the Bay Area and want to drop by, you'll get to see even more of an all-star blogger crew tonight. I can't wait!

Following the book-goodness, we enjoyed a lovely dinner and then I spent the night at Steph's house and drank pink champagne and ate cream cheese, Rotel and sausage dip picnic-style while watching the debate. In the morning, I woke up to hot coffee and watched as one of my favorite little families in the whole world got ready for their day.

I finally dragged myself away and drove into the office to work. I got a modest amount of work done because I was so busy yakking with everyone.

After a lovely lunch and a few more hours of email, we had a little combo goodbye/birthday party as there were two of us October babies and one co-worker leaving the company and moving across the country.

By the time I got home last night, I was all talked out. For a few hours anyway.

My actual birthday is Monday, and I'm full of pleasant anticipation for my 36th year. I've got a wonderful family, kids that rock my socks off, friends who fill my life with laughter and a job I love. I've been published in an anthology, celebrated 10 years of marriage, found out that I'm great at some things, and horrible at others and finally stopped biting my nails.

I've been surrounded by people who have pushed, pulled and sometimes carried me in new directions, and while it hasn't always been enjoyable (for any of the parties involved, because I can be both stubborn and cranky) I am so amazed at how my life has changed in the last year, and I'm grateful.

In a lot of ways, I feel like I've hit a whole new gear in my life. I'm not entirely sure where I'm headed, but I'm enjoying the scenery as it whizzes by.
