Maybe it is all the vegetables

Over Christmas break, I signed the kids up for a two-month soccer academy. They've never played soccer before, with the exception of my youngest doing that half-day, one week program last summer. I figured a skill building program was a good way to get them introduced to the nuts and bolts of the sport, and then if they really like it, we can try a regular team in the summer or fall.

It's a simple enough schedule - my son practices with the boys on Monday evenings, and the girls practice with the girls on Friday evenings, and then they both have games on Saturday morning.

Like, we have to be across town at the outdoor all-weather field at 7:45 am on Saturday mornings. The next seven of them, since we've already done one. That, my friends is very early. And very cold (for wimps who are used to temperate weather.)

So yesterday, we watched the kids play, and then brought them home to change, and headed out to get some sandwiches at a local restaurant. Sitting there at the table, I felt a wave of... not nausea, exactly, but something Not Right. I figured it was just an early morning, cold temperatures, no food thing. But even when I had a really yummy green salad tossed with shrimp sitting in front of me, I couldn't make myself eat more than a few bites. I also couldn't stop yawning and could barely keep my eyes open.

After excusing myself to visit the bathroom, where nothing dramatic happened, I urged my family to hurry up and eat, packed my salad in a to-go box and we rushed home, where I spent the next 18 hours in bed. I'm feeling much better this morning, but I do NOT know what the heck was up with that. Apparently around 8 pm, my oldest was throwing up, but I was pretty out of it at that point.

My son was home sick on Thursday and Friday, but he mostly slept and watched TV on Thursday, and was feeling much better on Friday, aside from a violent puking episode on Thursday night. I'm figuring whatever he had, I'm working through, and so is my oldest. I'm grateful that we're not completely zonked, but I just feel completely drained.

Ah well, onward. I have a lot to do to get ready for this next week, and I'm determined to get it done before I sleep tonight.
