Dress Rehearsal
Tomorrow is my youngest daughter's first day of third grade.
We were taking a look at her new outfits, when I pointed out that I had opted to buy her several pairs of 'jeggings' since she prefers an elastic waist and she's so petite. At 8 years old, I had to buy her a size 5 so the waist would stay up and the legs didn't drag under her heels.
She tried them on and yelled "MOM! YOU GOT ME PAJAMA JEANS! AWESOME!"
I explained that no, they were not Pajama Jeans, but actually a Jeans-Leggings hybrid. She frowned at me and said "Oh. Well, I'm going to tell everyone they are Pajama Jeans."
I remember being in 3rd Grade and having some opinions about what brands would be considered cool. It usually had something to do with a logo, or velcro straps, or a specific pattern, but hoo boy, I never remember honing in on a pair of pants that promised to be comfortable enough to sleep in.
I'm not sure if this bodes well for my future wallet, is a compliment to my daughter's sensibility that comfort trumps style, or if this means that my kids watch way too much TV?
Perhaps I need to look to my own yoga-pants wearing habit which means that my girl doesn't realize that pants without fake pockets and elastic waists are generally considered more awesome than Pajama Jeans.
Comments
I wore yoga pants to the store the other day breaking a long standing rule of my own not to do so. It's all over now but the crying. The crying of the clerks as I buy my weekly fix of Andy Capp's Hot Fries while wearing yoga pants, that is...
