Listen here, whipper-snapper

Hey, everybody! The 1970s were 50 years ago. That seems really rude and also impossible. Thank you, husband, for pointing that out. GAH.

Anyway, last night, my son decided to show me some animated music videos on YouTube. I liked seeing what got him excited about the art, and pointed out a few movies that had similar looks – Blade Runner, for one. Not sure if there is any connection between the video and Ridley Scott’s movie, but there was a lot of things that seemed familiar in the animation.

Then, my son showed me a video that he loves for another song I wasn’t familiar with, and noted that the video was very trippy and strange.

I watched it, enjoyed it, and then let him know that it wasn’t all that strange to someone who grew up watching Sesame Street in the 1970s. I pulled up a compilation video of the Pinball animation from back in the day.

He just watched silently, while I watched his profile. He mouthed “what” to himself at one point. Then he turned wide eyes to me and said, “okay, fair enough.” And then he disappeared into his room, presumably to meditate on what he just learned about himself, his mom, and the number 12.
